For nearly 50 years, the Garth Homer Society has ben supporting people to be actively engaged citizens in their communities. The Garth Homer Centre for Belonging opens the Society’s next chapter which focuses on inviting the community into Garth Homer, a place where everyone is welcome.


The Garth Homer Centre for Belonging is not simply a new building for GHS programs, it is a community hub for the Nigel Valley Neighborhood that will be home to many opportunities for every member of this community.

The Great Hall

A welcoming venue for community celebrations, performances and events like neighbourhood markets and workshops that bring life, vibrancy and opportunities for connection to the Nigel Valley neighbourhood.

Program Area

Space for GHS Community Inclusion programs for adults with diverse abilities. The program space will be available to other non-profit organizations in the Nigel Valley, and throughout the Capital Region.

Social Enterprise Space

Street-level commercial space will house neighbourhood-serving amenities that may include a dental office, childcare centre or cafe. This space will be prioritized for social enterprises that value equitable hiring and job training.

Housing

90 new homes will provide permanent secure housing to an inclusive mix of households and incomes. Many of these homes will be prioritized for people with diverse abilities, allowing independent living within an integrated, inclusive and accessible community.

The Garth Homer Centre for Belonging’s sole purpose is to meet the needs of the GHS Community and beyond. The development of this project has been informed by extensive engagement and input from people served, families, staff, and community interest groups. The result is a design that is both humble in service, and grand in vision.
