We have four key program and service areas: community inclusion, services for people who are aging (geriatrics), employment services and residential services. Our programs are as diverse as the community members we serve are, and include art and music, life and technology skills development, volunteering and employment programs, plus outdoor and community activities. There’s no one-size-fits-all at Garth Homer - our program opportunities are tailored to the needs and interests of participants, to make sure there are rewarding experiences for people with a range of abilities and goals.
Discovering one's place in the world is challenging, but self-expression fosters human connection, communication, and physical skills, leading to belonging opportunities and community unity. Understanding each person and crafting tailored plans for their unique needs, activities, and preferences is crucial. Our participants enjoy a flexible daily schedule with diverse recreational activities, outings, and interactive community experiences that combine learning and entertainment. We prioritise supporting a diverse group through expertise in building custom solutions for your loved ones, offering physical, behavioural, and personal care support.
Everyone deserves a sense of purpose and value in society. Garth Homer's Learning and Employment programs support practical learning, vocational pursuits, gainful employment, self-employment, entrepreneurial ventures, and post-secondary learning. Through investment in growth and development, these programs aim to maximise inclusion, employment opportunities, and independence for all. Working closely with local employers, community organisations, and educators, the programs promote inclusivity in hiring, post-secondary learning, and community involvement.
Our Pathways program provides an opportunity for individuals to age with dignity while receiving the necessary support as their needs evolve. In this vibrant and accessible space, participants can engage with old and new friends, partake in community activities, and make choices that align with their preferences. Pathways offers a diverse range of activities such as art classes, cooking workshops, yoga sessions, and reading opportunities. We prioritize our participants' well-being by conducting baseline cognitive assessments to detect potential changes associated with aging and dementia. By tailoring health supports based on these assessments, we ensure personalized care for all those we support.
At Garth Homer Society, we believe everyone deserves a place to call home. Our mission is to provide adults with developmental disabilities a fulfilling life and a sense of belonging. Our Residential Services, centered around the beautiful heritage home, Heron House, in Victoria, offer round-the-clock support, home-cooked meals, and access to serene outdoor spaces. We are committed to fostering a strong community and continuously expanding our services to meet evolving needs. Join us as we create spaces where everyone can feel at home.

There are two funding options to support individuals in their programs. The first is through Community Living BC (CLBC), a government-funded program aimed at assisting individuals with developmental disabilities to access necessary services and resources. The second option is self-funding, where individuals or their families directly cover the expenses associated with the services at Garth Homer Society.
