The Routine
Day to Day
Each day, participants engage in structured routines designed specifically for them that promote independence, social connection, and well-being.
Daily activities include:
- Art
- Gardening
- Light exercise
- Vilunteering
This dual focus ensures that aging, and retirement, is not only about comfort and care, but also about joy and exploration.
The Care
As people with developmental disabilities age into later life, Garth Homer is a constant in their changing world. Our Pathways program provides an opportunity for individuals to age with dignity while receiving the necessary support as their needs and desires evolve, their functional abilities change, health problems increase, and they must cope with major life transitions and a shrinking social circle.
Garth Homer provides services for older age clients that help address these changes, delivering tailored health supports for our senior participants.
People with developmental disabilities are four to five times more likely to be diagnosed with dementia.
We prioritize our participants’ well-being by conducting baseline cognitive assessments to detect potential changes associated with aging and dementia. By tailoring health supports based on these assessments, we ensure personalized care for everyone we support.

Frequently Asked Questions
What age do people transition to Pathways?
There is no set age to transition into the Pathways program. Individuals retire to Pathways when they are ready for a different pace in their day to day life and their needs begin to evolve.
Where is the Pathways program located?
The Pathways day program is located at 771 Vernon Ave, Unit 105, Victoria, BC, but we don’t stay put! Participants regularly head out to explore community locations, participate in activities, and experience new environments. It’s the best of both worlds: the comfort of a familiar space and the excitement of something new every week.
What is the schedule for the Pathways program?
Pathways runs Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, but each persons schedule is flexible. Each participant chooses the days that fit their life, while still enjoying all the resources, activities, and guidance we offer.
Access Our Services
It all starts with Community Living BC (CLBC), the provincial crown agency. They work with individuals, families, service providers and other key members on an individual’s care team to determine funding eligibility and provide options. The Garth Homer Society is partially funded by Community Living BC, and almost all of our clients are referred to us through their services.
Determining Fit
We build custom plans for each individual based off of their needs and desires.
Participants in Community Inclusion programs enjoy a flexible daily schedule with diverse recreational activities, outings, and interactive community experiences that combine learning and entertainment.
