Saanich calls on province to reinstate Community Housing Fund

The District of Saanich is calling on the province to reinstate funds to the Community Housing Fund to get a valuable community housing project back on track. The Garth Homer Society’s Centre for Belonging, which provides services and programs for adults with developmental disabilities, is one of several B.C. housing projects that had its funding reversed by the province in its 2026 Budget.

By mid-to late October around 200 clients and staff will be calling SJ Willis School their ‘home away from home’ for the next several years so that construction of a new Garth Homer Centre for Belonging can start.

Garth Homer Sailors take to the water thanks to Able Sail and the Sidney North Saanich Yacht Club

Eleven members of the Discovery team went sailing for the first time with Able Sail. Sailors can take in the scenery, watch for wildlife and enjoy time on the water, while specially trained staff control the sailboat. They are welcome to learn about sailing or just enjoy the ride.
