Friendship is a highlight of Garth Homer Society programs, according to Laurie Fairweather. With more than 35 years’ experience at GHS, Laurie is an expert. In addition to the love of her family, the connections and relationships she’s nurtured in her time at GHS are hugely supportive and valuable, she says. “Garth Homer gives people a sense of belonging, a community. And community is crucial,” she says. “I feel safe, loved, and supported here.”
It was a tour of Garth Homer Society’s (GHS) Community Access Team (CAT) program in 2019 that literally stopped Cathy in her tracks when she laid eyes on a familiar face. The re-connection was instant,” recalls Steeple. “They hugged and it was like a magical moment; like finding a lost soulmate.”
Jordan is embracing his passion for driving as he advances from sorting yard labourer to recycling truck driver at GFL Environmental. Jordan’s path at GFL Environmental Inc. is a story of steady growth and commitment.
For the last twelve months, participants in the STARR community inclusion program have delivered newspapers and collected refundables in order to share their holiday spirit with local families. Their efforts cover the cost of a hamper brimming with gifts, groceries, and a full holiday meal for two families this year.
